"I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You" is a song from American indie rock band Black Kids, taken from their debut album Partie Traumatic. It was released as the band's debut single by Almost Gold Recordings on April 7, 2008 in the UK, and by Columbia Records on May 27, 2008 in the US. It entered the UK Singles Chart at number eleven. The demo version from the band's 2007 EP Wizard of Ahhhs placed at number sixty-eight on Pitchfork Media's Top 100 Tracks of 2007. The song was also covered by British pop singer Kate Nash.
According to lead singer Reggie Youngblood the track was inspired by Jacksonville's dance party scene: Although he frequented them he realized more often than not he would usually end up with girls who couldn't dance.[1] The song is noted for its 'bi-curious' lyrics, specifically the line "You are the girl, that I've been dreaming of, ever since I was a little girl". According to Reggie's sister and fellow bandmate Ali Youngblood, this is based on an inside joke between the two of them where they would refer to wanting something "Ever since I was a little girl".[2]
